Why rent an apartment in the neighbourhood of Legazpi, Madrid?

The neighbourhood of Legazpi is one of the neighbourhoods that make up the district of Arganzuela. It has the shape of a trapezium, and it is located in the southeast part of the district.

The neighbourhood is bordered by Calle del Vado de Santa Catalina, Calle de Bolívar, Calle del Bronce, Paseo del Molino and Calle Maestro Arbos to the north; ring road M-30 to the southeast and the River Manzanares and M-30 to the south.

This is one of the capital’s most popular neighbourhoods and also one of the most interesting ones when renting a flat in the district of Arganzuela. The area is very comprehensive and full of services, shops and green zones for relaxation.

Additionally, the neighbourhood is perfectly connected with other parts of the Spanish capital, as there is an excellent public transport network.

The neighbourhood of Legazpi had been a rural area up until the 19th century, and it was then bordered by Calle de Vicálvaro (what is now Calle de Méndez Álvaro).

The ring road that linked the Atocha stations with the North (what is today Príncipe Pío) was built after Madrid's urban planning had been approved of in 1860.

This is also when Delicias station was built, and thanks to this construction, the neighbourhood is now one of the best-connected neighbourhoods in the capital. After the station of Delicias was closed, development of the neighbourhood took new forms again in the 70s.

And this is how it eventually transformed into a quiet, residential neighbourhood, that is full of services; a modern and vibrant neighbourhood.

The neighbourhood has several green zones, commercial areas and excellent connections, and all this is combined with a more residential character. This neighbourhood is the perfect location for anyone who wishes to live in the district of Arganzuela.

Rental prices are not very cheap though, but they tend to be more affordable than prices at other, more central parts of Madrid.

What to see in the neighbourhood of Legazpi in Madrid

One of the neighbourhood of Legazpi’s great assets is the Parque de Tierno Galván, one of the largest and most modern parks in the city of Madrid. It covers 45 hectares and its construction began in the mid-1980s when the role of the city's mayor was fulfilled by the politician Enrique Tierno Galván, hence the park’s name.

You can stroll along the tree-lined paths with conifers, poplars and rosebushes in Parque de Tierno Galván, but it is also possible to relax on one of its many grass fields or sit beside its ponds. This park also has an amazing climbing wall, which is ideal for both the young and not-so-young rock-climbing enthusiasts, as rock climbing is for all ages.

Another interesting sight to see in the neighbourhood of Legazpi is the Planetario. Madrid’s Planetarium can be found inside Parque de Tierno Galván, and it opened its doors for the first time in 1986.

You can visit several exhibition halls, and they are all about galaxies, comets and the universe. The building has a 28-metre high tower, with a 3-metre dome (in diameter), and there is also a large telescope.
