The neighbourhood has gotten its name from the fact that this was the area with the most dense and important pine forests in all of Madrid’s surroundings.

At the beginning of the 20th century many wealthy residents had a country house built in Pinar del Rey, and it was also part of an avant-garde urban development plan, with projects by the illustrious architect Arturo Soria being implemented here.

Nowadays, only a small part of the original pine forest is still being preserved.

One of the most interesting places to visit in Pinar del Rey is Parque de Isabel Clara Eugenia. This is a park in between Calle de Mar de Caspio and Calle de Valdetorres de Jarama.

This park is designed as a typical romantic style garden, and with a surface of 2.3 hectares, it has more than 580 trees and 1,300 m2 of bushes.

The forum that was restored in 2007 really stands out and has a semicircular space with stands similar to a theatre. Inside the park different sports can be practiced, like skating and skateboarding.

The park also has a playground and water fountain (for consumption).
